Hello. I am Tomoko Kataoka, the manager of Rainbow School.
My journey with Rainbow School started 10 years ago, since I was appointed in November 2010.
Before working for Rainbow School, I was working as a Japanese teacher for 4 years and a half in a private school in a suburban area of Bangkok. I received good enough benefit and wage, enjoying working for Thai children there. However, I was feeling that I need to change and create something more meaningful in the bottom of my heart. It was then when I was offered to start Rainbow School by Mr. Tamaki.
We create a bright future by giving a quality education to children who are living with severe poverty and difficult conditions.
We build a way of living kind to our ecosystem from a scratch together with children.
These visions made me passionate and hungry because I intuitively found that they offer as a meaningful way of living. Despite my parents and friends opposed to my decision, I moved to this remote area near the border of Thailand and Myammer.
Children I met here have pure and beautiful souls, teaching me that money cannot buy contentment in the mind. I rather have learned a lot from these children’s parents, villagers and our staff who have been incredibly kind.
Among these people with beautiful souls, what I can offer is to teach literacy, life skills and values that are useful to work in the contemporary society without losing the innate gifts each child has. And I would like to offer this place for visitors from other countries to reflect and rediscover what we should and could do in order to create a better world.
Reflecting on my strengths and weaknesses as a person who grew up in Japan, I want to be fully committed to deliver these works. This is my ambition and reason why I am involved with the school.
Although every day is learning process with trials and errors, I would like to keep progressing with brilliant children, staff and friends of Rainbow School. Thank you.
